Eating my words fast!
OK, so I have been known for having to eat my words many times before but this morning broke the record for speed, I think! I told y’all yesterday that I was starting to clean down all the paintwork and along with that doing some sorting. Having started in our bedroom the first “big” area to tackle was the photographs! We have albums and albums of photos and there is no way that we can take them all overseas with us. That would just be a waste of space as some of them we rarely look at anyway but of course neither did we just want to throw them away.
My original plan was to just take all the old ones out of the albums and put them in a shoebox. (The more recent ones, since using the digital camera, are all on the computer.) I told Richard this morning there was no way I was going to scan all the old pics in as it was going to be way too time consuming! Hah! I happen to pull his childhood album out first and as I tried to peel them off the photo album I knew they were not going to last in a shoebox. Scanning them in one by one, was also going to be extremely impractical so in the end I opted for creating a PDF document, which enabled me to scan several together on a page and also allowed me to continue adding pages until complete. This way the photos are all saved and they are in individual documents so easy to find should we be nostalgic one day or the kids want to know what Daddy looked like many moons ago.
Next up were our honeymoon photos when we went to Tenerife. As poor as church mice, we only went because Richard’s mum at the time owned a timeshare and they were trying to get folks to come out to the northern part of Tenerife to look at a new complex they were building/renovating. (If you have never been to Tenerife, the south is very touristy whereas the north is greener and quieter. At least it used to be!) We got to stay in one of the old rooms for free if we agreed to listen to their spiel! Sounded a good plan to us and remember, flights from the UK were cheap. Can’t remember how much they cost us but it wasn’t much. We never ate out and in fact going to a grocery store was quite an experience. I had been to Germany once but Richard had never been abroad and here we were in a Spanish speaking country. Both of us had taken French in school and I had taken some German! Deciphering what was in the food packets was interesting. I think we lived on bacon and eggs for most of the week and splashed out once for a tin of chicken. Dog meat was on sale but we decided against that! Then to crown it all, I stepped on something poisonous, probably some kind of plant. It caused a very itchy rash to crawl up my legs and the heat made it worse! Guess what? Tenerife is hot! What a way to start married life?! The rash only went away once we got back into the UK.
The picture of us above is at the Grand Canyon of Tenerife and I am pretty sure that is Mt. Teide in the background. I had completely forgotten this until today. Of course back then, we had no idea we would be living in the USA where the “big” Grand Canyon is! Richard & I have been laughing about his skin tight jeans today. His words were, “Well it wouldn’t be appropriate to wear them today!” LOL! I replied, “I don’t think they make them for your size today!” (And no, I was not being rude but we have matured a little!) In fact, it’s not fashionable for guys to wear “spray-on” jeans today or at least I don’t see any around here wearing them!
Take care,
Liz
