Getting in the firewood
With Richard working 72-96 hrs a week (3 or 4 x 24 hrs) right now, when he comes home neither him nor us has any desire to go out & cut wood! Fall is here & the cooler nights which right now are absolutely wonderful will soon turn even cooler & the fire will need to go on as it is the only source we use to heat the house with. SO today we drove the truck into town hoping to see some wood to purchase on our way. We did pass by one lot but it was expensive. Whilst I was lying on the chiropractic table I felt to ask him where to buy wood as he has lived here for years & sure enough he was able to direct us to a local sawmill.
Off we headed & for $30 we could fill the truck bed up with as much wood (oak) as we could fit in! Wow! All of us, including the three little ones, helped fill the back of the truck. The wood is not in uniform pieces but that does not matter to us at all – it will burn really well. Our truck has an 8ft bed so it can hold a lot!
Once we got home everyone once again helped to get it unloaded. The kids went into find gloves & decided they needed hats too! LOL!
They all worked hard knowing that we need this wood to stay warm this winter. One of them, mentioning no names, had originally said when we first started loading it that they were not going to help! We had a little talk & explained if we didn’t all work to get wood then we would not be able to be warm when winter arrived. There were no more comments! In fact, we have been reading Proverbs to them each morning recently & sluggards (lazy people) are mentioned quite frequently in there so another of them, whilst unloading the wood, kept repeating the fact that they were all working hard as they did not want to be called sluggards!
The plan is to go back next week for another load while it is still warm & there is plenty of it to get.
