Parrot Mountain, Pigeon Forge, TN
Five pictures in this post
We kept our Tennessee vacation pretty low budget, not spending much on many of the ‘money grabbing’ activities that are available in a tourist town. Yes, we ate out more than normal but also did a lot of cooking too. As soon as we arrived in Pigeon Forge, the kids picked up some of the tourist leaflets. Apart from the attractions that I have already mentioned in previous posts, Parrot Mountain was one place I really wanted to visit. It is fairly expensive to get in if there are a few of you but it is SO worth it. We spent 3 hours there on Friday afternoon, loving every minute.
When I met Richard, he was raising parakeets (budgies) and cockatiels. He eventually became more interested in me than the birds plus his mum moved house after his dad died so the birds became a thing of the past! He has always had a love for them though. At Parrot Mountain you get to interact with the friendly ones, some of which talk etc.
All three of the kids loved the birds climbing on their hats etc.
Daniel was fascinated with this toucan:
Visitors are also allowed in the nursery to interact with all the young birds that are for sale. As well as breeding rare birds here, Parrot Mountain also runs Wings of the Smokies Foundation which rescues abandoned, abused birds etc. Not only will you see hundreds of parrots, many of whom have had a second chance in life, you can also enjoy the truly spectacular gardens. Located close to Dollywood, Parrot Mountain is easy to find. Our visit has changed the rest of our life here on earth but more about that in my next post!
Take care,
Liz
