Branson Titanic
As we have been all the way to Belfast Titanic we figured we ought to go to the one close by SO on the first Saturday down in Branson we headed on over.
This museum has alot of artifacts found on the ocean OR donated from people’s own private belongings. It does not have any items salvaged from the wreck. (Those items are owned by a totally different company.) As you walk into the museum there is a large model of the Titanic which took a young man 2 years to build. It is incredible. I have to say that the one thing that gets a bad mark about this museum is that no pictures of any kind are allowed to be taken which would be fine but they also have no brochure or souvenir guide so there is absolutely nothing, apart from the picture taken of the outside of the museum, to remind you of your trip. Apparently it is due to copyright laws but I am sure they could put together some form of booklet with watermarks, overlapping pics etc to at least show some of the details.
The museum is well laid out & it was interesting to read about different people’s lives, postcards sent etc. They do have a replica of one flight of stairs from the Grand Staircase & that is really well done. There is also a life size half section of lifeboat for you to sit in & a bucket of water kept at the temperature it was on the night of the sinking. You can see how long you can hold your fingers in there – it is COLD!
Right now they have on display the violin belonging to Wallace Hartley. That is pretty incredible. Wallace’s body was found floating on the ocean & on his back was the case holding his violin & other belongings. It was apparently “lost” for several years. The violin is going up for auction in October & is expected to fetch a very high price (in the millions). It is not known whether it will ever be seen by the public again! I took this pic from the internet.
I should say they do take your photo at one point which of course they want you to buy but it was very expensive & we did not feel it was worth it.
SO definitely a museum worth going to but….
