Twin Ewe Lambs from Cybele :)
A few days ago we noticed that Cybele had quite a big bag. This morning as Richard went out to the barn to feed the animals, I was outside taking photos and thought I heard lambs baaing. Out comes Richard from the barn a few seconds later shouting “Two lambs!”
They had only just been born – still covered in yuck and trying to find their feet. Two big ewe lambs! It was not that warm this morning, only about 18F so they were naturally shivering. Richard ran up to the house for some towels so I rubbed them off. I felt inside their mouths and they were warm so not too concerned.
Just went out now and thankfully the sun is shining. Cybele has them still in the barn but in the sunshine and they are doing great.
These lambs are extra special as these are the first live lambs that Cybele has produced here on the farm! The last two lots, if you remember, were born dead. The only reason we gave her another chance was because she is the friendliest sheep we have and keeps the rest of the sheep in line, making them easy to do things with. Glad we did 🙂 Cybele is now 7 & 1/2 years old but boy, is she proud of those babies and very protective of them. The lambs are pure bred St. Croix but are not registrable as we have a couple rams left out there so either one could be the dad.
Take care,
Liz
