Tubing a lamb
We may not be farming much these days but we do still help out where needed. A couple weeks ago, Richard and Daniel went castrate a young bull for someone that we had sold some Milking Devon breeding stock to a while back. Yesterday I received a call from a friend asking if we had any colostrum. We did have some at one point but neither Richard nor I could put our hands on it!
The friend’s ewe had had twins sometime in the night and for some reason the dogs had dragged the ewe lamb through the fence and put her in a little lean-to shed! Poor thing was very weak but by the time I arrived she had warmed up. We fed her some milk by putting a tube down her throat. Later our friend was able to get some colostrum and the lamb was taking a bottle so hoping she will be alright. The other lamb, a ram, was real spunky. I did try to milk the mama but she was not having that. I got a few squirts but no more. I think also the ram lamb had been drinking so not sure she actually had much to give.
As for Jessie (daughter-in-law) having the baby – no news yet! She did go in to be induced on Monday but Miss Renzi was not at all interested in coming out so they sent her home on Tuesday and I think they are going to try again tomorrow (Saturday). Will let you know once we hear 🙂
