Gallons of plums!
We picked 3 1/2 gallons of plums on Sunday morning plus at least 2 gallons of rotten/split ones. We cleaned up the area so that now it is much easier to pick up the freshly fallen ones each day. The rotten ones don’t go to waste, the pigs are enjoying them each day.
Yesterday I cut the grass for only the second time this year! Yep, the sheep have really kept it down but once the grass gets seed heads they do not eat them so it was looking a little scrappy. Looks much tidier now. Whilst I was out mowing I knew the children were in the house but thought they were playing happily. (Richard was on a paramedic shift.) Well they were playing but Hannah & Caleb were also getting into mischief. They ate half a gallon of plums that I had put in the fridge & spat pips all over the floor! At least Hannah spat out the pips, Caleb just ate them. Didn’t he half get the squits?! It was not long before he was pooping plum skins & pips and his butt was red raw. I had no sympathy for him although I did put some cream on to help soothe it.
If you are wondering if I am still picking blackberries, I am. I go out every 2-3 days. I now pick mostly by myself as where I am picking the grass is WAY long & the kids would just get covered in ticks & chiggers so I head out whilst everyone is sleeping. Got nearly a gallon this morning so the pickings are still good. The rain helped plump the berries up. Blackberries may take a while to pick but at least when you get them home all you have to do is wash & freeze. Plums are way more time consuming.
Hope your week is going well,
Liz
